Experimental Photography Techniques

Our Spring classes are starting soon, and we have a new class focusing on experimental photography techniques. Under the guidance of experienced instructors Lisa Dimondstein and Sandy Shenk, you will learn how to create painterly, dream-like and impressionistic images. Each class will focus on a new technique, outlined below:

Class 1 - Movement: panning, slow shutter speed, zooming




Class 2 - Composite and reversal montage




Class 3 - Surreal or Orton montage



Class 4 - See Through Filters and Selective Focus




Class 5 - Multiple Exposures



Class 6 - Critique

Experimental Photography Techniques
Tuesdays, April 14-May 19, 6-8:30pm
Prerequisite: Intro to the 35MM Film or Digital SLR or equivalent and basic Photoshop knowledge.
Limit: 12
Expand your creative vision to create painterly, dream-like images through the exploration of experimental photographic techniques. Photomontage, layering multiple exposures, panning, and more will be covered. This class will include hands-on instruction both in the classroom and in the field. Suitable for film or digital SLR users.

The drive to create is a strong one in humanity. Whether it is massive structures like the Pyramids or the Eiffel Tower, or the tiniest computer chip, humankind has always been driven to leave its mark on the planet. "Works of Man" is an opportunity for artists to chronicle the indelible mark that has been made by these creations.

Portfolio Showcase, Volume 3 Book and Online Exhibition
Entries close at Midnight, April 28th

Fifteen photographers will be chosen to display their
twelve-image portfolio's in The Center for Fine Art Photography's Portfolio ShowCase Volume 3: Book and Online Exhibition. The show will be featured on the Center's web site at www.c4fap.org from June 1 - June 30, 2009 and will remain online for the next two years.

Documentary
Entries close at Midnight, May 12th

Documentary photographer has the power to tell stories untold, create social change, awaken emotions, and show the intimate and unseen. This exhibition will feature the artistic viewpoint of the documentary photographer.

Explore the basic workings of the manual 35mm film or digital SLR camera to learn how to take the photographs you envision. Demystify f-stops, shutter speeds and exposure, and learn the basics of composition, lens choices and film types/sensitivity. Bring an empty manual 35mm film or digital SLR camera and it’s owner’s manual to the first class.
