The Impossible Project

marypolaroid

Polaroids are so much fun. The colors are beautiful, weird mistakes can be gifts, and you just never know what you are going to get. I, like many other artists, was so disappointed to hear that Polaroid was no longer going to produce instant film. So sad! Yes, you can get instant results digitally, but for polaroid artists, this was bad news. The mystery is a huge part of the fun and character of a polaroid.

You can imagine my glee, then, when I came across this website over the weekend:

The Impossible Project!

So it looks like there might just be a reinvention of our beloved medium. How exciting! I am pleased to see that Ilford is supporting the project.

As they request on their site, keep your finger's crossed for them!

I love the darkroom. For me, nothing beats the quiet, orange-lit space with the sound of running water and rocking trays, or the excited anticipation of seeing your print emerge for the first time... The darkroom isn't antiquated here - it's a place of magic and creation, of contemplation and community.

Never tried it? Curious to learn the old-school methods?

Perhaps you might want to consider spending 8 winter evenings here with us, learning your film camera and the darkroom:

INTRO TO BLACK AND WHITE FILM AND THE DARKROOM with Allison Hale
Thursdays, February 5 – March 26; 6:30-8:30pm
$195, $175.50 BCA Members (all paper, chemicals and film included)
No experience necessary
Discover the mysteries of the darkroom and make your own photographic prints! Learn how to properly expose black & white film, process film into negatives, and make prints from those negatives. At the end of this class, participants will be ready to use the darkroom independently as community darkroom members. Bring an empty manual 35mm film camera to the first class.
