Thursday Nights in the Darkroom

Here are some images from our Thursday evening Mixed Level Darkroom class, taken by student Adam Pray. (thanks, Adam). This class is designed for students with varied levels of darkroom experience who want one-on-one guidance to work on projects of their choosing. It's my favorite class to teach because my students are motivated and excited to bring their work to the next level - we have a great time and there is a real feeling of community and collaboration.

In the Fall session and in this current session, we did some experimenting with cyanotypes. Students learned how to scan images and how to print large format digital negatives in our Digital Media Lab. Once they had negatives, students coated heavyweight watercolor paper with Fotospeed Cyanotype solution and exposed their images in our UV light box...

I love the blending of new digital technology and historic processes!

This session, students also worked on creating a consistent series and portfolio/concept development. Here are images from our midpoint critique:

We offer this class every Fall and Winter/Spring and many students have continued for several years... the analog process is alive and well at BCA!

  1. Great images. I truly think this website needs much more consideration. I'll probably be again to read much more, thanks for that info.
